How a first order runs

01

Brief

Send front and back images, a sketch or a tech pack, plus target quantity, colours, size split and destination country. A photo is enough to start; a firm quote needs measurements, quantity, colours and branding.

02

Yarn

We confirm composition, micron, yarn count, finish and origin for the selected yarn in writing before sampling.

03

Sample

One production-representative sample in about 5–7 working days. The fee is credited against your later bulk order.

04

Bulk

50% deposit, written schedule, about 15–20 days. Photo or video updates at agreed stages.

05

Inspection and shipping

AQL Level II final inspection; a first small order ships by DHL to your address.

Yarn

We work in 100% fine merino, with micron, yarn count and finish confirmed for the specific yarn rather than for a category name. Two finishes are standard: machine-washable (shrink-resist treated) and mercerized. Cashmere and selected merino blends are available on request. Origin is Australia or New Zealand depending on the yarn.

For the selected yarn we can request RWS, GRS and OEKO-TEX Standard 100 documents from the mill; a mulesing-free declaration can be requested when the buyer needs it. We do not publish mill names. You may also supply your own yarn; the garment minimum is then 50 pieces, and yarn quantity and quality are agreed between you and your mill.

Materials

Quality and remedies

Final inspection uses AQL Level II random sampling with major defects judged at AQL 2.5 across sizes and colours. If a lot fails, we rework the whole batch at our cost and do not ship until it passes; a few defective units in an otherwise passing lot do not trigger a full rework.

For verified defective units caused by our production or materials, continuing partners receive 200% of those units on the next order; one-time orders receive a refund for the defective quantity. Independent third-party inspection can be arranged separately.

Quality policy

How to compare knitwear quotes

When you compare manufacturers, ask the same five questions of each:

  1. Is the MOQ per order, per style or per colour?
  2. Is the sample made in the bulk yarn, and is the fee credited?
  3. What exactly is included in the lead time?
  4. Does the quote separate garment price, freight and destination tax?
  5. Who pays for rework if the lot fails inspection?

Our answers are in the table above.

Frequently asked questions

Do you accept orders of 30 pieces?

Yes. When Langfield sources the yarn, the minimum is 30 pieces total per order, with at least 10 pieces in each selected colour and size. When you supply the yarn, the minimum is 50 pieces.

Is the minimum per style or per colour?

Per order. 30 pieces can be one style in one colour, or split across colours and sizes as long as each selected colour-size has at least 10 pieces.

How long does a sample take and what does the fee cover?

About 5–7 working days after the style, yarn and measurements are confirmed. The fee covers pattern and sample making and is credited against any later bulk order. Courier is quoted separately and is not credited.

How long is bulk production?

About 15–20 days depending on the order quantity. We provide a written schedule before the 50% deposit.

How do you take payment?

50% deposit to start, balance before shipment, by company-to-company bank transfer to Shanghai Langfield Industrial Co., Ltd. We do not accept personal WeChat, personal cards or payment to an individual.

How is a first order shipped?

By DHL to your address. The quote is garment value plus freight; you pay import duty and VAT to the courier on delivery. We do not quote a first small order as DDP. Later bulk orders can be quoted EXW, FOB, CIF or another Incoterm.

Where is the knitwear developed and produced?

Development, sourcing coordination and order management are handled in Shanghai. Knitting and finishing run through our specialist production network in China.

Do I need an established brand?

No. We work with founders preparing a new brand, provided you bring a defined style or choose an existing Langfield development style and plan a production order. We do not create a brand identity or a whole collection from scratch.
